I grew up surrounded by people best described as “salt of the earth.” As a kid in that kind of environment, you learn pretty quickly to be creative and resourceful. Simply put, I will do whatever it takes to get the shot, because I do not know another way. Authenticity is part of who I am at the core.
There's nothing I enjoy more than watching my son as he grows, through innocent eyes, interacting with his world with genuine curiosity and wit. It is a continuous inspiration for me to find a unique perspective and know that there is always another way. Curiosity drives my life.
I started my career as a photojournalist and then as an agency Art Director. After five years, I followed my passion to be a Photographer and Director. I consider myself a story-teller and use my experience to create honest stories documenting real moments and true emotions. I love shooting in water up to my neck, swimming with sharks, and laying in the mud; but I also clean up pretty nice when I'm shooting in homes and offices! I'm up for anything with an amazing team of people working by my side. There is no better way to live!

I am committed to supporting conservation organizations and causes that protect our land and water. I am currently the Artist in Residence at Prairie Rivers Network and have photographs in a United Nations Climate Change and The Climate Museum exhibit in New York City, as well as another United Nations exhibit about water in Paris.
My deeply held ideals are the driving force behind why my wife and I fulfilled a long-held ambition to purchase 27 acres of forest at the mouth of Jordan Creek. Ultimately, we raised money through print sales and worked with The Land Conservation Foundation to get a grant to transfer the land to a land trust for permanent protection.
We also challenged ourselves to explore new ways to green our studio. We weatherized, insulated, overhauled, and installed. We paired geothermal with a rooftop solar system and are now 100 percent powered by clean energy. We have a 19kW system on the roof of our studio, and we added 6kW more at a local community solar farm in 2021. Nothing was exempt from examination to make our workspace good for the health of everyone who works or visits and good for the planet.
I served on the board of directors for Prairie Rivers Network for ten years and served on several other Not for Profit boards. I have worked with The Nature Conservancy, National Geographic, The Sierra Club, and many other not-for-profit organizations. The Illinois Solar Energy Association saw my Solar Heroes project and asked if I could create one for them to help pass new legislation. I said: \"OF COURSE\"! I am happy to have been a tiny part of it by creating and shooting this campaign, and The Governor of Illinois signed a nation-leading equitable climate bill in 2021. I am always looking for opportunities to partner with conservation organizations. Hit us up, and let's make a difference.

Jordan Creek Preserve
Growing up in the Midwest, being raised and surrounded by factory workers, meant becoming part of a community that prides itself on getting dirty on purpose. Through them, I learned what it means to put in a full day's work for a full day's pay – that hard work is simply the price of entry. From these competent and dependable \"salt of the earth\" people also came the inherited ideals of the gritty, enterprising pioneers who came before us and the belief that decency and integrity are paramount and that strength of character comes from a deeper connection to the land.
As a teenager, I worked on a farm, engaging fully in the physicality of the land. Young and imaginative and always outdoors, I was armed with a do-it-yourself spirit when it came to solving problems on the fly, I loved the feeling of improv and the satisfaction that came with making something out of seemingly nothing. Resourcefulness and thinking outside the box grew to be second nature to me. I learned to see problems as questions. And questions as opportunities for creativity.
At the heart of this creativity were my mother and my grandmother. I cannot remember a time when they weren't creating or crafting. They introduced me to all that is possible with oil paints, blank sheets of paper, and a glue gun, forever encouraging me to use my imagination further, be inspired by the nature around me and explore new ways to express myself. In middle school, I tried a photography class, and from working in the darkroom, I found my salvation — the medium a perfect co-existence of science and art.
Through photography I caught a glimpse of other ways of life. I saw people and ideas that revealed different perspectives on the ways of the world, ideas that challenged me – I was all in. Defying expectations, I went to college and majored in graphic design, all the while continuing to explore photography. After five years as a designer and art director I took the leap to pursue photography full-time, my opportunity to craft the kinds of stories that preserved what I saw, narratives I believed would contribute to a deeper understanding of the world.
This passion for creativity and the belief in getting dirty for a purpose continues to fuel me. It is important through my projects to call attention to what I envision could get lost in our world. Be it the renewal of nature, or the preservation of land, a loved one or even just a moment in time, each shoot another opportunity to make the time to create, to preserve.
All the while aspiring to do whatever it takes to find something extraordinary in each moment, each shot. Be it drifting down river in a dugout canoe or hiking 8-hours up a mountain with full shoot gear in The Amazon, for me the journey is just as important as the process.
Whether we are talking about nature or people, a person must leave their comfort zone and imagine through the eyes of another. Empathy is one of the greatest gifts that humans can give to each other — to slow down and step into another's shoes, to feel what they feel. It is not always comfortable, but it is precisely because of that discomfort and being shaken out of familiar narratives that we learn and grow.
I've always thought that the more life experience you gain, the more empathy you will have. Though nothing could have prepared me for my newborn son's first four month's stay in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care or his 20 surgeries and six years of 120-hour a week home nursing. Not only was I forced to deal with my feelings but also to be fully present for those I love. It was necessary to develop trust and rapport with the army of caregivers who were there to help us. The doctors, nurses, therapists, medical, and health insurance providers were our champions and cheerleaders. Their philosophy to treat the patient and family made a huge difference in helping us heal – everyone's compassion and empathy on full display every day. It was a growth experience that continues to help me in my professional and personal life.
Today it is my son who continues to teach me. As I watch him grow and interact with the world, he demonstrates children's unapologetic interest in all things. My son’s wholesome approach and his never-ending questioning about the marvels of the world serve as my catalyst to tell the kinds of stories that move us to be more imaginative, more empathetic, more compassionate, and more generous. One must strive to make choices to ensure the things you love continue to thrive.
Each choice is a reminder of our ripple effect, an invitation to take full responsibility for our impact on the world. Our lives, our work, the health of our environment, and how we value it, all interdependent. And like those gritty and enterprising pioneers who came before me, I believe that no-one is too small to make a difference in the world. My son is living proof of this.

For this, I will continue to dig and search and leave no stone unturned; to do whatever it takes to tell the kinds of stories that bring people deeper into something that will move them and inspire action. This my on-going ode to great design, my way to make something memorable and meaningful.
Reflecting Forward
In science, we are often contemplating the future by evaluating the past. The portrait obscured by reflections represents the idea of looking forward and backward in time. The ambiguity and the unknown come to the surface, clouding our vision of the past and the future. These portraits explore the uncertain futures of the next generation that will be struck the hardest by the impacts of Climate Change. Just as these images suggest, we are intertwined with the natural world and will need to find our path.
The “Reflecting Forward” project was inspired by my 13-year-old son, Björn. During one of our many daily chats, he asked about Climate Change and what the world will look like in the future. I realized I had only murky visions of that future myself and could not give him a clear answer. As a father, I hated the fact that I could not provide much clarity for Björn and knew I needed to explore this idea with a photography project. “Reflecting Forward” was born.

We are taking the Covid-19 pandemic very seriously. SAFETY
As safety has always been a priority on set, every production will be assessed for its individual level of risk, and our team will be prepared with a detailed safety plan in place to follow. During our research on the best practices to take, Jason and Talia completed certification in the OSHA Production COVID Control Course. This course provided valuable information on new safety procedures, which we are following to allow us to work as safely as possible while doing our best to lessen the spread of the virus onset.

COLLABORATION AND VIRTUAL VIDEO VILLAGE
Seamless collaboration with the agency and client is essential on our shoots, and our team has the capabilities to offer live 2-way interactive remote photo review and remote video village on location. We have solutions for on-location remote viewing with Cellular wifi technology and locations with internet service. You can listed to a recent interview recorded for 'Dear Art Producer' where I discuss with agent Heather Elder the different streaming technologies we use on-set and on-location, among discussing other Covid related production solutions.

Shooting projects with leaner crews and using real people talent is something we are very familiar with and will be valuable moving forward with productions. You can read about a photo and motion production we created recently from start to finish using a two-person crew in this recent interview.
VIRTUAL CASTING OF REAL PEOPLE AND FAMILIES
Casting authentic characters and capturing real moments and connections has always been paramount in our shoots, and we have always loved working with real people talent (real families / real couples, etc.) Using real people talent is even more critical now, and we are working with fantastic casting partners with virtual casting options in place.
LOCAL RESOURCES
We have incredible local production teams in place throughout the country. Jason has been hiring local producers, crew, and talent for almost every role on the crew for years. On most shoots in the last three years, Jason was the only person to travel in for shoots. Moving forward, this will continue to be a priority for us, allowing us to reduce travel. We have been collaborating with local production teams during this time to ensure we are all working together on the appropriate safety protocols and precautions and are aligned on our detailed safety plan related to Covid-19.

Coming from a liberal perspective, I believe the American flag must remain a symbol for all people, regardless of their political path. This understanding shapes my exploration of how this powerful emblem reflects our collective story.
In this photography project, I explore the profound symbolism of the American flag as a mirror reflecting the vast and varied landscape of the American dream. Just as a tapestry of traditions and protocols binds the flag—dictating its display, folding, and retirement—so too is it emblematic of the ideals and aspirations that define the nation. These guidelines present the flag in its most dignified form, mirroring the collective hope for America to embody its finest virtues.
Yet, inherent in the fabric of this symbol is a recognition of our shared humanity. Weathered and worn flags continue to fly—not as a mark of disregard but as silent testaments to lives rich with intention yet intercepted by the realities of existence. This dichotomy between aspiration and reality echoes the American dream: a concept as diverse and multifaceted as the people chasing it. For some, this dream is a vivid reality; for others, it remains an elusive shadow.
Through my lens, I capture the flag in all its iterations—from pristine to tattered, from the affluent suburbs to the forgotten corners of urban decay. Each image serves as a narrative, a story of struggle, hope, and the enduring spirit of a nation. The diversity of the flags’ conditions and settings speaks to the diversity of the American experience itself, a reminder that while we may strive for a collective ideal, our paths and outcomes vary greatly.
Reflections on progress and potential: this project is an ode to the complex beauty of America and its people. It is a visual dialogue about our nation’s ideals, challenges, and the enduring spirit that propels us forward. Through the varied states of our flags, we see the true face of America: resilient, hopeful, and beautifully imperfect.
In capturing these flags, I aim not just to document but to provoke thought, ignite empathy, and kindle a shared sense of purpose. This is an exploration of the American dream in all its forms, a recognition of our shared journey towards an ideal that, despite its elusiveness, continues to unite us in our diversity and drive us towards a better tomorrow.
Winters Last Dance
I have always been fascinated with the elusiveness of snow in the midwest. Over the last twenty years of chasing snow, it has become less and less frequent. That elusiveness portrayed in these photographs is what makes them so representative of life. This series of images was three years in the making. It took me a year to get the right conditions to create the first photograph and two more years to get the right conditions to finish the series. I had to have just the correct type of snow to stick in the trees, just the right temperature, so the river was not frozen, and little wind so the snow would stay in the trees. The wind picked up at the end of my flight and blew all the snow out fo the trees. Over three years, the conditions lasted a total of two hours.

Fractured History
This project was born 20 years ago when I moved to North Dakota and had a naive view of Native Americans. Until then, I had not known any personally and had this Hollywood view of Native Americans living and dressing as if it was 200 years ago. I had the privilege of photographing many assignments on the Native American Indian reservations in North Dakota and getting to know many diverse people. I met many amazing individuals, and they opened my eyes to contemporary Indian life. I began to dismantle my Hollywood perceptions of Native Americans and began to try and understand what it might be like to have your entire culture and language ripped away from you. As with many things I struggle with, I turned to art to explore my emotions and help me work through them.

Cracks in the Ice
As I look to the future, to the world that my son will inherit, and to the forest where I live that may soon be on fire, climate change and the immediate impact on the environment constantly weighs on my mind. To research this devastating phenomenon, I acquired a series of educational glass slides to examine and consider. Each revealed a vintage photograph of glaciers, now disappearing or already gone. I shattered the glass negatives to call attention to this loss and fragility of our planet, but also to echo an experience with my newborn son's first four month's stay in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care or his 20 surgeries and six years of 120-hour a week home nursing. Cracks in the Ice is a metaphor for the precariousness and vulnerability of those I love. It is also a way to speak to the profound loss from global warming and a planet under siege.

Millions of miles of hidden underground rivers flow beneath farm fields in the Midwest. I found this idea so intriguing that I could not quit thinking about it. The question was, 'How do I photograph something invisible, and what is the environmental impact?' I continued to explore the idea for a few years until I came across drainage tiles being installed. I knew instantly how I wanted to show these hidden rivers to the world.

These aerial images show the human marks left on farm fields just after installing the tiles. The dark lines in the photographs are where the soil has been disturbed, and the drainage tiles are buried. The tiles help drain water off the flat farm fields faster, decrease soil erosion in the field, and increase crop yields. There is also a four-fold increase in Nitrogen pollution in rivers, harming water quality and increasing greenhouse gas production in waterways. Microbial denitrification converts the Nitrogen into Nitrous Oxide, which is 298 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas, therefore, having a more significant impact on Climate Change. It is complicated; they have positive and negative environmental effects. More research is needed to find the best solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our food production.

The Drains Out of Town: The Invisible Environmental History of a Flatland
Robert Michael Morrissey, Associate Professor, Environmental History.
\"One invisible story of connection and disconnection in the eastern prairie region is arguably more fundamental than any other to it's ecological history. It is the story of water. Although most of us in the midwest are not accustomed to thinking about water as a central factor in the environmental circumstances of our place, it is nonetheless true that one of the most important paths out of town is a river. And not just any river, but something of a cyborg river running ramrod straight through the cornfields. This is a river fed by thousands of miles of PVC tubes (still known as drainage \"tiles\" in local parlance) buried underneath the rural landscape, totally out of sight. This is a river periodically gushing with massive springtime floods and their associated agricultural runoff, including importantly topsoil and agrochemicals. This is a river that embodies one of the most profound landscape changes perhaps in all of North America, and a river whose destiny is intertwined with a key symbol of the Anthropocene: the dead zone of the Gulf of Mexico, which grows bigger each year.
Here the engineering problem is flatness. Perhaps even more so than ecological changes in vegetation cover, the changes that landowners wrought in combating the flatness of this landscape were profound, severe, and irreversibly permanent. If it is true that the prairie peninsula is one of the most radically transformed ecological assemblages in North America, measured from the beginning of settler colonialism to today, surely drainage is a— if not the—most central aspect of that transformation.
Flatlands can be disorienting, especially since so much of their history is invisible or even buried. Unflattening the image of the midwestern landscape reveals a complex environmental history featuring a massive engineering project that left little trace on the land and even less in our consciousness. These unseen infrastructures need to be dug up and viewed in the light of day, lest they fool us into taking the monocultural and industrial landscape around us for granted, an unquestioned example of what William Cronon calls \"second nature.\" Following the paths of connection across this flatland can restore a sense of the contingencies involved in how this place came to be, and perhaps give us a sense of how to live in it better.
And in a larger sense, restoring contour to a flattened historical narrative helps us know how to act in the world. Modernity itself acts as a flattener, attempting to hide complexity, connection, disconnection, and loss beneath a clean surface of Progress. Environmental humanists are in a good place to question these flattened narratives and restore unseen connections.\"
Water
This series of photographs are of prairie and woodland burns used to restore the area to a more natural state, and they do the same for me. The smoke washing over me and through me as I breathe it gives me a feeling of rebirth, regrowth, and hope. It reminds me of Native American rituals of cleansing with sweat lodges and the sacred art of smudging. I am exploring the ideas of destruction bringing new growth, of the cycles of life, and finding the meaning of renewal. The contradiction of fire being restorative intrigues me.

Glacier's Captured Whisper
In an age where the natural world faces unprecedented threats, the commodification of nature has reached absurd extremes. Glaciers—majestic and ancient, now rapidly disappearing—are bottled, sold, and shipped worldwide as if their permanence were assured. My series Glacier's Captured Whisper grapples with this dissonance, confronting the unsettling reality of a culture that packages and consumes what it simultaneously destroys.
To create these photographs, I purchased bottled glacier water, froze it, and transformed it into my own \"glacier ice.\" Working with this frozen water, I sought to echo something of the glaciers' fleeting majesty - their ancient grace now slipping away. When I placed blue plastic beneath the ice, it created an otherworldly glow, hauntingly beautiful yet artificial - much like the pristine packaging that promises us bottled wilderness.
The act of photographing became its own metaphor for climate urgency—racing against time as the ice melted beneath my lens, experiencing a fraction of the anxiety felt by those documenting Earth's vanishing glaciers. These fleeting moments of beauty, captured just before dissolution, echo the more significant crisis of our melting ice caps.
The textures and transparency of the ice evoke both wonder and a haunting sense of loss. Each photograph serves as a reminder of what is vanishing before our eyes and an invitation to reflect on our role in that disappearance.
This work questions the absurdity of consuming glaciers in plastic bottles—a transaction perpetuating the climate crisis causing their demise. The work leads me to ask: What hubris lets us believe we can possess something as timeless as a glacier? As these ancient ice formations vanish, how do we justify our endless consumption of what remains?
Glacier's Captured Whisper reaches beyond mere documentation. In these crystalline moments, I see our own reflection - a world both creating and destroying itself. Through these images, I hope to spark conversations about what we cherish, what we waste, and what remains to be saved.

I struggle with the stereotypical view of the rural-urban divide; I am concerned about our country's red and blue divide. Our food is not red and blue, our rivers are not red and blue, and our earth is not red and blue. We need to find a path forward that unites us. I am fascinated with the idea that two people can look at the same thing and see totally different things. I wanted to explore that idea while using the two colors to illuminate a landscape.
Nighttime views of corn growing in agricultural research greenhouses sparked my interest in pursuing this project. They immediately inspired visions of the Sci-fi artwork in my son's books. I sought to express the Sci-fi vibe I experienced when I saw those glowing greenhouses.
I am not sure what will change our political divide. We have been coming together around food for thousands of years, so maybe coming together around food in the place it grows could open a dialogue and encourage change? I envision these photographs exhibited in barns across the country with large food tables filled with people of all political parties having a civil conversation about our future.

Following a citizen scientist's journey of discovery, the film explores the treasure hunt for finding freshwater mussels in the upper Sangamon River. Everyday people in Illinois are supporting science in ways that are important to the well-being of their local environment. Finding a diverse collection of healthy mussels means a healthy river, which in turn means healthy people in the community. The film also shows how people come together around these experiences to ensure a healthy community. \"The goal of this film will be to demystify the overall process of scientific research,” said RiverWatch Director and Stream Ecologist Danelle Haake. “We also want to show that community science projects are for everyone and no experience in science is required to participate.”

\"It's Time\" is a poetic 4-minute film born from a personal journey of discovery. Set in early spring, in our backyard on the banks of the Sangamon River in Illinois, this cinematic ode gives voice to nature through stunning visuals and lyrical narration.
Inspired by the ancient practice of maple syrup making, the film interweaves the rhythm of sap collection with the melody of a wooden flute, creating a symphony of human creativity and nature's wisdom. The tree's awakening becomes a powerful metaphor for environmental awareness, highlighting the delicate balance between abundance and responsibility.
This film is dedicated to Indigenous peoples, including the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wabanaki, who invented maple syrup and have harvested sap for centuries as an essential part of their physical and spiritual nourishment.

ORIGIN STORY BEHIND 'IT'S TIME'
In 2019, my wife and I embarked on a journey of discovery, learning to make maple syrup from the sugar maples in our backyard. Little did we know, this simple decision would lead to the creation of 'It's Time,' a short film that would enlighten us and our audience about the power of nature's bounty and generational wisdom in fostering climate awareness.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, we found ourselves in a unique situation. Confined to our property, we discovered a sense of unity and shared experience in the rhythmic drip of sap and the billowing steam of the evaporator. It was during these quiet moments that the seed of an idea began to germinate, connecting us to the world outside.
A pivotal moment occurred one March morning as I practiced my wooden flute beneath the trees. The flute's melody intertwined with the steady plink of sap falling into buckets, creating a natural symphony of cycles and interconnectedness. This experience became a cornerstone of the film, representing the delicate balance between human creativity and nature's wisdom.
Then, the spring of 2023 brought an unexpected challenge. Unusual weather patterns disrupted the sap flow, rendering our trees silent. This absence underscored the urgency and responsibility we all share in the face of climate change. What was once taken for granted now felt precious and precarious, adding a sense of motivation to the film's message.
Robin Wall Kimmerer's book \"Braiding Sweetgrass\" profoundly influenced the project during this time. The book's exploration of indigenous wisdom and our relationship with the natural world resonated deeply. The Anishinaabe story of Nanabozho and the maple trees struck a chord, illuminating the delicate balance between abundance and responsibility and shaping the film's narrative and visual style.
In the winter of 2023, \"It's Time\" officially took shape. I contacted my longtime collaborator, Scott Krahn, whose creative directing skills and writing prowess elevated the project. Embracing the challenge of being a one-person crew, I took on the roles of cinematographer and editor. My wife, who had been an integral part of our maple syrup making and our journey of creativity and climate awareness, became the main subject of the film's visuals. Her involvement allowed for a rare combination of authentic storytelling and personal insight, elevating the project's emotional core.
From its inception in 2019 to its completion in the late summer of 2024, \"It's Time\" evolved from a simple documentation of maple syrup making into a unique and poignant exploration of climate change, indigenous wisdom, and our intricate relationship with nature. This short film, with its focus on personal connection and quiet moments spent in harmony with the natural world, stands as a testament to the power of storytelling in inspiring broader awareness.

Jason Lindsey
Jason Lindsey's journey as a director is rooted in a deep connection to the natural world, shaped by his upbringing among \"salt of the earth\" individuals. This background instilled a passion for capturing authentic stories that resonate, educate, and bridge human experiences with environmental narratives.
With a background in photojournalism, art direction, and commercial directing, he has honed his skills in visual storytelling, bringing a unique eye for composition and light to his documentary work. His approach blends observational techniques with visually striking cinematography, aiming to forge a deep connection between the audience and the natural world, to evoke emotions and inspire action.
As a volunteer, Jason was on the Board of Directors of Prairie Rivers Network for eleven years. His deeply held ideals are the driving force behind why he and his wife fulfilled a long-held ambition to purchase 27 acres of forest at the mouth of Jordan Creek. Ultimately, they worked with The Land Conservation Foundation to transfer the land to a land trust for permanent protection.
His films have been recognized at prestigious environmental film festivals, including the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, Fresh Coast Film Festival, Wildlife Conservation Film Festival, and 20 other festivals. He is honored to have received the Best Documentary award at the World Water Film Festival.
Jason's latest project, \"It's Time,\" is a short documentary set in his backyard along the Sangamon River in Illinois. It gives a voice to nature and embodies his mission to create films that showcase our environment's beauty and inspire environmental stewardship.

Scott Krahn
For over 35 years, Scott Krahn created and produced award-winning television commercials and videos for advertising clients across a range of categories, including tourism, healthcare and higher education. He also provided photography services for ad agency clients. During this time, Scott developed an affinity for editorial-style storytelling that focused on the lives of everyday people.
As a volunteer, Scott coached youth basketball for 10 years, was a Big Brother for twelve years, served as publicity committee chair for his church for more than a decade, and was a member of the Wauwatosa Public Library Foundation board for 18 years.
Since retiring, Scott has worked as a freelance photographer while pursuing his interest in filmmaking. He also produced and directed the short documentary “Friday Night Blind,” a short film that has garnered significant acclaim. The film has been featured in over 36 film festivals and secured more than a dozen awards. \"Friday Night Blind\" tells the warm, quirky, inspiring story of three visually impaired bowling friends and the way they roll.
With a deep appreciation of nature and a love of traveling, Scott and his wife, Sharon, enjoy hiking Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail and continue their mission to visit all 63 U.S. national parks.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT
\"Breaking Ice\" emerges from my climate anxiety—that gnawing uncertainty about the world my son Björn will inherit. His early life of medical fragility, marked by multiple surgeries and a craving for stability, mirrors our planet's precarious state: both demand we reimagine certainty in an era of constant change.
Through shattering century-old glacier slides, I explore how we instinctively try to piece together what's broken. Our human impulse to rebuild reveals something essential about environmental crisis—we can create meaning from loss, not by returning to a pristine past, but by crafting an honest future.
Art, for me, is never about providing answers. It's about bearing witness to what's breaking while believing in our capacity to respond—showcasing both the beauty and loss that now exist side by side, and art's power to inspire action.
The challenge isn't about fixing everything. It's about being willing to begin.

DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
Jason Lindsey
Jason Lindsey's journey as a director is rooted in a deep connection to the natural world, shaped by his upbringing among \"salt of the earth\" individuals. This background instilled a passion for capturing authentic stories that resonate, educate, and bridge human experiences with environmental narratives.
With a background in photojournalism, art direction, and commercial directing, he has honed his skills in visual storytelling, bringing a unique eye for composition and light to his documentary work. His approach blends observational techniques with visually striking cinematography, aiming to forge a deep connection between the audience and the natural world, to evoke emotions and inspire action.
As a volunteer, Jason was on the Board of Directors of Prairie Rivers Network for eleven years. His deeply held ideals are the driving force behind why he and his wife fulfilled a long-held ambition to purchase 27 acres of forest at the mouth of Jordan Creek. Ultimately, they worked with The Land Conservation Foundation to transfer the land to a land trust for permanent protection.
His films have been recognized at prestigious environmental film festivals, including the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, Fresh Coast Film Festival, Wildlife Conservation Film Festival, and 20 other festivals. He is honored to have received the Best Documentary award at the World Water Film Festival.
Jason's latest projects explore climate change through intimate storytelling. His most recent film, \"Breaking Ice: The Making of Cracks in the Ice\", follows his previous short documentary \"It's Time,\" a short film set in his backyard along the Sangamon River in Illinois. Both projects give voice to nature and embody his mission to create films that showcase our environment's beauty and inspire environmental stewardship.
